21-EX CAR. *7941a / *7770 *7005

The above car is the next car we are proposing to send to France. It is running on the road, but there are one or two points on it which should be improved before it leaves. We attach a list of the modified parts which are fitted to this car.

We are still not happy about engine feet. We have fitted up two cars with the LeC. scheme - one would certainly not pass for a frame joggle, the other one appears to be reasonably good, although it has not so far run any distance on the road. We should dread to think of cars having to receive individual adjustment for engine feet.

Our tests on engine feet are curtailed at the moment because the roads are covered with snow and ice and are unsafe.

We have been able to reproduce the effect on the bumping rig. We can get the front part of the frame twisting alarmingly. It disappears as soon as we relieve the weight of the body. A separate report is being prepared on these tests. We have also fitted the car with the new exhaust system. This has reduced some of the noise which was on the original scheme but we are still a long way from being satisfied.

When comparing 'SS{S. Smith}' cars - all three which we have running appear to be more or less the same - there is a booming
