84117 C.to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED 10 OCT 1931 Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SELL/KH.9.10.31. RE: CHASSIS 114.GN - DR.BASTIANELLI We are in receipt of your C14/CB.08.10.31. the contents of which we have duly noted. With regard to the third paragraph of your memo, the high compression head you mention was recommended by EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, but on discussing this matter with the Experimental Department, we are informed that it would not increase the maximum speed of the car, and would only provide a bit better acceleration. Furthermore, there are no cylinder heads of this type immediately available and it would therefore, be necessary to have one specially produced. It must also be remembered that this car is definitely below standard in regard to power and acceleration, and furthermore Dr.Bastianelli considers the performance of Baron Thyssen's car 202-GN to be perfectly satisfactory and much better than his own car. We therefore, feel that if the engine is tuned up after decarbonising to give the best all round performance, Dr.Bastianelli should be quite satisfied.
