BY from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X3409 ROY{Sir Henry Royce}3/MG9.11.26 Brake Linings Messrs. Morgan, Crossley & Co., of Miles Platting, Manchester, claim that they are producing Brake Lining superior, in their opinion, to Ferodo. They enclose 4 samples, and write: "We consequently have much pleasure to enclose you four "samples showing four different qualities of our TENOID Asbestos- "Metallic Lining. These samples consist of one ordinary quality "flexible finish, one ordinary quality hard finish, one hydraulically "pressed light pressure and one hydraulically pressed heavy pressure. "We also enclose you a copy of small booklet dealing with this material "and copy of an independent test undertaken by the Sheffield Testing "Works which may be of interest to you. In this connection we may "say, for your information, that the sample tested against ours was "Ferodo best quality. A perusal of this test will show that our "TENOID gave a result of about 25% increased breaking power with no "other disadvantage. Since then we have had a series of tests "conducted by the National Physical Laboratory and these tests are "eminently satisfactory but the results we have not yet had printed. "It is our intention with reference to high-class Cars "to specialise in producing a special quality to suit each "individual model and we shall have very much pleasure in supplying "one or two sets for testing purposes free of charge. If you will "be good enough either now or at some later date to give these a "trial, we would ask you before submitting them if we might have the "opportunity of coming over to Derby and seeing the brakes with which "the test would be conducted, so that we could form an opinion as to "the exact quality necessary to give the best possible result. "The prices in the enclosed booklet need not be taken any "notice of as they would be subject to about 75% discount and in any "case we have no doubt that we shall be able to quote a price which "will be quite satisfactory to you. We wish however first of all to "show that we can produce a quality which will meet with your approval. "Thanking you in anticipation and awaiting the favor of "your reply. Yours faithfully, ..." Kindly advise if interested. As far as cost is concerned, I am checking their figures. ENCLOSURE. Booklet and Test Report to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and 4 samples. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
