Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Date 4. 9. 28. Page 2 in these tanks are the old Temple type, as shown on our print K-S 36 enclosed, we should then have some information on the matter. If on the other hand, they are Sprengel units, as shown on our print K-S.100 also enclosed, then it is evident that these units are not in sufficiently close proximity to a baffle. If you will recollect, the Sprengel type units, as shown on print K-S.100, were supplied against your order for twelve gauges, which we understood unofficially were intended for twelve special cars. These sets, the units of which were Sprengel type, (and the gauges were subsequently modified), were similar to that tested by Mr. Robotham on the car in France, i.e. Sprengels 2 1/4" from baffle. If you can ascertain whether the cars with which this trouble is occurring are fitted with the old type Temple units, (to print K-S.36), we can easily make up in advance a Sprengel replacement unit, and send our installation man up to your works with it towards the end of the week, to check over any one of these installations which can be got at, and which is in trouble. | ||
