22.G.V. SUSPENSION

The general object of the low rating springs and the front anti-roll rod on the above car is so that we can relieve the discomfort for sensitive rear seat passengers.

It is therefore no use continuing with these tests unless a real improvement is gained in the rear seat ride compared to our present standard of low rating springing.

According to the way in which the other characteristics of the car are adversely affected, a decision will be produced as to how often the springs can be used. We are certain that such springs will be useful for particular customers, but we do not know whether they can be standardised for production erection.

We cannot believe that these springs with 80 pounds front and 100 pounds rear damper loads taken over 14 seconds can be any benefit over our standard low rating springs with 40 pounds demping front and rear taken over 2 seconds.

Very few people will agree with the minute details of any damper setting which is not their own, but it is not difficult with the springs now fitted to 22.G.V. to produce a rear seat ride which is far superior than the present car.

Here are the damper settings now used by the Repair Dept. to deal with sensitive rear seat passengers:-

Front 40 lbs. .039 hole in valve.
Rear 40 lbs. .039 hole in valve.

These settings are now being used on Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s car with similar springs as now fitted to 22.G.V. and a front anti-roll rod. The result being a very large improvement over the standard car. I am arranging for four dampers to be sent to you having this setting. We have had three cars running in Derby with similar springs to those now on 22.G.V., but with these the stiffness of an experimental front roll rod silentbloc bushes made the ride slightly harsh. The roll rod as fitted to 22.G.V. has less stiff silentbloc bushes.

We are therefore very interested to have your opinion in harshness in the riding due to the connection of the roll rod.

continued.
