'INDIA' - FRONT AXLE BRAKE LEVERS.

With reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/BmL/LG23.5.25., we are investigating the possibility of varying a small amount the stroke on these levers so as to give more clearance with the axle, but in the meanwhile we should like to point out with reference to the table at the end of your note, that from the design the total available movement at the lever extremity on India should be 1.9 instead of 1.625., also that the corresponding figure on the EAC. axle - (that is to say, a figure giving the movement of the brake lever when adjustment is required, which we may say should be when the pedal is touching the floorboards) is 2.3 and not 2.9. We do not think these movements can be considered independent of the movement of the pedals.

We also do not entirely agree with the figure "movement lost while taking up 20 thous. clearance in the centre of the brake shoes". We think .560 for India should be .540.

These modifications considerably reduce the discrepancy in the 2 figures given for the remaining movement available for wear, etc.

Regarding the spring in the axle we may say that from your own figures it is exactly the same in proportion to the relative loads in the brake ropes.
