EXTRACT FROM SPECIFICATION NO. CH.600.

SCOPE OF CONTRACT.

The contract shall include the supply and delivery and supervision of erection of two petrol engine driven alternator sets at the Railway Co's Works either at Derby or Wolverton.

DUTY.

The sets shall be capable of giving a continuous output at 260 volts, 3 phase, 50 cycles of 35 Kva at 0.9 power factor. Each set shall be complete in itself and will normally be required to operate separately but the two sets shall be capable of operating in parallel when required, sharing the load equally at all loads.

GENERAL.

The sets shall be suitable for mounting in a special compartment of a railway carriage, and a drawing showing the space available is enclosed. The engine and alternator shall be mounted on a common bedplate, directly coupled through a suitable coupling and shall be arranged so that either may be easily removed without disturbing the other. The two sets shall be identical so that all component parts are completely interchangeable. The sets shall operate at all conditions of load with the absolute minimum of noise and vibration to the entire satisfaction of the Engineer. All moving parts shall be completely shrouded but facilities shall be provided for easy accessibility for adjustment or maintenance purposes where necessary. All components shall comply with the appropriate B.S. SPECIFICATION.
