To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 45840 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bml/LG19.6.29. 19th. June 1929. 20 HP. SPARE WHEEL CARRIER. X 5600 The following is a note we have received from Hancock with reference to the spare wheel carrier. "We have received your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Am3/LG14.6.29. re. side spare wheel carrier. We will look into the question of the carrier and let you have results as soon as possible. We can give you the information that it is not the frame that is whipping, but entirely the non-rigid qualities of the tubes and discs. The fault lies chiefly in changing the disc and bolt. Further details later". We feel that even if the tubes were stiffened up the frame might go in torsion because the wheel has been raised giving it a bigger twisting moment about the frame when it is shaken from side to side, as often happens on a bad road.
