X58 40 OABM To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.A.E. Hôtel de France, Châteauroux, Indre. YS60/20/6/29. We have as previously reported been working on the side spare wheel carrier. We have now had made and fitted the suggestions I sent you. There is now no movement of the tubes, but we have found a greater weakness. The anchorage plate we reported whipped. In the sketch, you will observe an exaggeration of the whipping, and also how we have attempted to overcome it, but after doing this we still get a bad distortion of the anchorage plate due to the small area of the head of the bolt marked in red, which being local simply pulls the plate about how it likes. There should be a large diameter plate here to distribute the load. We have improved by our arrangement the carrier 50%. The above applies to the rear carrier also. The bolt head is too local.
