We recently standardised ribbed cast iron brake drums for the front of the 25 HP. Further experience however has shewn that there is a risk of getting very bad front brake shudders with this stiffer drum. This is a fault we experienced on the early front wheel brake Phantom which we overcome by putting a more flexible brake drum, and later was eliminated by means of the front axle controls. We have no alternative at the moment but to revert to the existing standard pressed steel front brake drums. None of the stiffer drums have got on to the car, they are due on Production in January. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} already has it in hand to get any which have been received replaced by the present standard steel drums. In the meantime we want to press again for the front axle control on the 25 HP. We must have this feature. This will then allow us to use the best form of brake drum, also make the car much safer.
