-3- Noise Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} feature I thought quite good, but Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GB. says he could make it worse by changing the existing Firestone tyres for Goodyear. (c) The worse feature was the high level of "rumble" when coasting which was at a maximum at 30 m.p.h. and stayed on right down to rest. The pitch was bordering on the lower audible limit and not apparent so much by it audibility as by the difficulty to hold normal quiet conversation. (Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GB. says it might be due to wheel bearings). The vibration could be felt on the steering wheel, the floor, the rear panel just above the squab and in the roof. (d) There is a bad boom in the rear seats which cannot be heard, but which several people have remarked upon, because it effects the ear drums. (e) The "knobbles" in the ride mentioned under "suspension" appear also as thumps in the noise level Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GB. says these are worse if the King Pins are slack). Body. The following features of the body appear to have a possible bearing on the noise problem. (1) When closing a door the body has a "tinlike" ring, a feature we do not get on the B.V. all steel saloon. Considerable improvement might be effected by doing at least as much in the way of panel damping as Park Ward now do. The following parts were those noticed to ring or boom. a.{Mr Adams} The roof and sun roof slide. b. The radiator grill. c. The door frames around the windows. d.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} The rear quarters. e.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} The well in the rear boot to clear the spare wheel. f.{Mr Friese} The floors, in spite of the damping material applied. (this only dealt with higher frequencies). Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
