To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}1/KT.1.9.33. 40/50 ENGINES IN TANKS. Replying to your E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}1/HP.28.8.33, saying that left hand engines will be used in the tanks, we send you the following revised figures. They are necessarily approximations as we cannot, for a few days, obtain a crankshaft to measure its inertia etc. (1) Flywheel inertia unchanged 1.3 slugs ft². (2) Inertia of crankshaft. 380 lbs. in². (3) " big ends + pistons. 190 " " (4) " " hub of vibration damper 20 lbs. in². (5) Natural frequency of engine alone 195 per sec. (3 per rev at 3900 r.p.m.) This last figure is accurate. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
