Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/AD21.11.30 contd. -4- XJ-152. The cause of this was the leather cap fitted to the rear bearing making it sluggish in operation. This was deleted some time ago. The modification was carried out on this starter. Main switch coil burnt out. XJ-167. XJ-24. These two cars have recently been dealt with in respect of the burning out of the coil in the main switch. The fault has been traced to the sticking in of the push button, but this sticking of the button has been misleading, in so much that it has returned sufficiently to break the contact operating the main current, thereby stopping the motor from revolving, but not breaking the circuit of the teazer coil which then quickly heats up. It is freed by the movement of the car but occurs again when starting up. The coachbuilders are the cause of this trouble in making the instrument boards thicker than the drawing calls for. The facing plate fastened on the instrument board having a very small clearance for the button has to be exactly concentric, or else it binds on the bottom. We cannot guarantee that the coachbuilders will always make the instrument boards the right thickness, therefore, to make sure that this failure will not occur, I would suggest that a collar .187" long be fitted to the facing plate acting as a guide and making certain, under all circumstances, of the concentricity of the starter button. In the meantime I gave written instructions to Er. to make sure of the freedom of the push button on all cars that came into the depot, also notifying Evans at Lillie Hall. Court switch failures. GN-56 GN-180 XJ-152 Failure to change over from head lamps to spot lamp. Bosch switches were fitted. | ||
