| SECRET. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Front Appearance of SpectreCodename for Phantom III. Copy to Mr. Hives, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Referring to EVL/15.9.34 we have had a discussion here relative to this matter and the feeling is very definitely against the front appearance on the lines of the little sketch which Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} prepared some time ago. He points out in his memo. the difficulty with the architecture because of the rectilinear lines at the top and the curvilinear lines at the base, and we really do not see how the two could ever be made to harmonise. We feel, therefore, that the best way is to work on what he calles 'Move No.1'. I understand that he is having models made and it does not appear as if anything can usefully be done until we have seen these. With regard to the question of steering rake for the second car we have agreed to the use of 'FFV' and we have asked Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} to study with the coachbuilders the question of recovering as much as possible fx of the 1½" lost in the rear compartment, which is involved in the use of 'FFV' column instead of 'MCR'.
