For the attention of Comndr. Matravers.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of Feb. 7th.

We are anxious to fit your second steering to one of our cars for further road tests, and should therefore prefer, if possible, you to come to examine the gear at the works here, replace the broken hemisphere, and then submit an improved design to us. We do not want to hold up our road tests because we do not believe that we have got the best compromise of axle and steering box for use with the Marles Weller type gear.

With regard to our bumping tests, it is almost impossible to convert hours on the test rig to miles on the road, also we do not know exactly when the first hemisphere failed.

Our usual acceptance test for so vital a part as a steering gear would be a 100 hour endurance run..

However, we can say that our front spring life is not much more than 50 hours on this particular test.

The writer will be away from these works for the next ten days, and would be glad if you
