To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. 1158 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.12/WH. 30.8.37. Car Heaters for R.R.Cars. We are anxious to obtain a car heater which we can recommend for use on R.R. cars. (we might even later make it a standard fitting) which possesses the virtues of compactness, small weight and reasonable cost, combined with adequate performance. Messrs. John Marston Ltd. are anxious to market such a car heater for us and are willing to help us in whatever way they can - we would like you to make the necessary drawings for a suitable heater for experimental purposes. We hand you herewith various parts of an experimental heater which Marstons have already made and also some parts of various American car heaters. We think that the heater should take in air axially and exhaust radially as shown on attached sketch, and our proposal is to use the motor and fan which we will hand to you for this purpose, together with a similar heater unit to the Marston sample. The main considerations in designing the heater should be (1) Compactness - particularly as regards depth. (2) Cost of manufacture. (3) Weight. Attached is a drawing showing dimensions of the type of Clayton heater which may be used. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
