CAST DASH AND BONNET. X7260 X7500

Although the cast dashboard has run 10,000 miles in France and several thousand miles since, we have not so far issued a standardisation sheet. The reason for this is that owing to the increased rigidity of the dashboard more engine vibrations are felt by the driver through the steering column. R.{Sir Henry Royce} appreciated this fault and considered it was objectionable, but he suggested that there may have been something wrong with that particular car, and that it was not the cast dashboard which was at fault.

We have since however carried out further tests and confirm that it is due to the cast dashboard. We are hoping however to confirm these results on EAC-V11 in the course of a few days because that car is also fitted with the cast dashboard.

When CWB. ran 12-EX car in France, we asked him specially to note the engine vibration felt by the driver. His opinion was that if we could guarantee that no cars would be worse than 12-EX in this respect, it would be considered satisfactory.

We hold the view that we cannot afford to sacrifice a fraction of engine smoothness. We think it is very probable that even with the cast dashboard, the manner of supporting the steering column could be altered to overcome this trouble.
