Messrs. Ferodo Ltd.,
CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH.

Your Ref. WES/PW.

For the attention of Mr. Shilton.

Dear Sirs,

In answer to your letter dated April 22nd. concerning the use of interleaving in leaf springs, we would point out that we have not yet completed our tests.

The reason for the delay is due to the fact that before we can consider such material for production we must be satisfied that it will stand up to road conditions. For this reason our bump test is unsatisfactory since no dust or gravel finds its way between the leaves of the spring - a condition which invariably exists on the road and generally leads to the failure of the interleaving.

Messrs. Toledo Woodhead are constructing a rig which will test a spring-cum-interleaving under road conditions, and as soon as we receive any useful information we will communicate with you.

Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
