6. STELLITING SILCROME.

Silcrome does not stellite well, as it is a ferritic steel. It is subject to bad grain growth from the torch, and this cannot be corrected by subsequent heat treatment. We do not recommend stelliting any ferritic steel. It can be done with great care.

We have not yet found any perfect valve steel, as there are too many qualities involved.

Because of the dishing trouble we have experienced, all valves which we make from XCR or XB have crowned heads.
