x200 a Run, Noted THC 25 RUE GIDE LEVALLOIS-PERRET. Seine France. 30th April 1935. R.H.C. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. 5 B IV. We have received your Memo.Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 7/MJ 26/4/35. We have been running with .004 Inlet .006 Exhaust valve clearances. We note your request of .004 for all Valves, and will set same. We do ofcourse get 15 to 20 minutes full throttle. We have had trouble with two exhaust valves sticking open. N° 3 took us twenty minutes to free it, then N° II stuck open but less difficulty was experienced to free it. We dismantled the engine on Sunday, to examine the Con rod bearings, also took the opportunity to dismantle the Valves to ascertain the cause of sticking. The Con rod bearings were generally in a good condition. The following is a summary of the bearings :- TOP HALF 1 Surface of metal dull but smooth & free from pitting. 2 Pitted at top of the Arch but shows no cracks between the pits. 3 Same as N° I 4 General surface smooth & bright one large pit 5 Pitted over 60% of surface some of the pits running into one another. Worst of the lot. 6 Surface good only occasional small pit. BOTTOM HALF. Same as top half Slight pitting of surface generally Surface dull, small patch of roughness Surface good smooth, fairly bright. One grit score along centre line Surface dull inclined to be rough especially on the Exhaust side. Surface smooth light pitting in the centre. .................. | ||
