care in design in orderthat the weight should be reduced at every possible opportunity.

Mr Nadin suggested that the redesign of the Marine Engine offered an excellent opportunity for this question of weight reduction.

9th Meeting
Dec.8th.11.

Mr Barrington informed the Committee that Mr Johnson had remarked with reference to the minute concerning this matter that the question of weight reduction should not be shelved, but that someone should examine every part from this point of view.

It was suggested that a competent draughtsman from each department should take this matter in hand under supervision of the chief draughtsman.

Mr Bailey suggested that this should be undertaken by the chief draughtsmen themselves, owing to its importance.

The Committee agreed that this should be done, and that progress should be reported to the Technical Committee every fortnight, giving particulars of the parts dealt with and the weight saved. This job should be tackled systematically with the aid of part lists etc.

The Committee agreed that each member should give every assistance in his power to the chief draughtsmen, in this matter.
