SECRET. To SY. Copy to Dr. [redacted] Mr. [redacted] Mr. [redacted] Mr. H-Y. F/Tld. Wraith II Steering Box. ---------------------- We send herewith N.Sch.5041 showing a series of modifications to the Wraith II steering box, which have been recommended by the Expl. Dept. as the result of tests. The modifications consist of the following:- 1) Cam Roller Bearing Assembly. We have fitted the cam roller bearing to Messrs. Ransome & Marles drawing No.B.10023 which we understand is what the Expl. Dept. tests demand. This necessitated certain modifications to the rocker shaft, and the width of the gap is increased, whilst provision for pen steel shims has been made. We attach to this memo. Messrs. Ransome & Marles drawing. The whole bearing assembly will be bought out from Messrs. Ransome & Marles. 2) Rocker Shaft. In addition to the modification under the previous heading we have cut out a considerable amount of weight on the rocker shaft which was intended on the original design but which was not sufficiently illustrated. In general the cross section of the rocker shaft is circular at all points rather than a quasi square as detailed, on the lines of the Expl. Dept's drawing Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}307. The milling of the gap in the rocker shaft is that which we understand the Milling Dept. of the Tool Office require. 3) Eccentric Sleeve. The eccentric sleeve is made an aluminium die casting to save weight and cost, and has been taken from the Expl. Dept's drawing No.Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}305. 4) Rocker Shaft End Cover. The rocker shaft end cover has been simplified and made in cast aluminium as shown on the Expl. Dept's drawing No. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}306. | ||
