FABRIC COUPLINGS.

A number of cases of failure of fabric couplings have taken place on Phantom II.

We recommend that when Phantom II cars come into Depots an examination should be made of the fabric couplings, and if any signs of disintegration can be seen, the coupling should be changed.

The method of making the fabric coupling has recently been altered and the plates are now being rivetted on to the fabric. This new type of coupling should be fitted where a replacement has to be made, and any stock of the old type couplings should be returned to the Works for modification.
