HARDY +341 To EY. from HDY.{William Hardy} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Ds. FHC. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Servo. N. Sch.4289 herewith shows two further methods of locating the fabrics on the servo discs. Keys and Keyways. The scheme with keyways in the fabric will, we understand, be much cheaper than as shown on N. Sch. 4283 for the fabric, but our machining difficulties appear to be more. We are not sure how the surplus metal will be cleared away. One suggestion is by formed milling cutters. If this method is used it may help to have double the number of keys. As far as we are concerned the choice between the keyway schemes rests entirely on the cost. Riveting. We show this as we are not yet convinced that the advantage of the key scheme is sufficient to justify the cost, which we imagine to be more. We should like both the key and riveting schemes to be tried out experimentally and a decision made later based on proved advantages and cost. HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
