Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1128 BY.3/G.26.6.39. 8 CYLINDER ENGINE FOR MARINE PURPOSES. I think the proposal put forward in Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}24/RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} 27.6.39., that we should provide the auxiliary engines for the P.V.70 ft. boats, will fit in with our programme. I see no reason why we should not go ahead straight away on a proposal of this kind, as a Marine engine need have no direct reference to chassis, and the fact that we are making an 8 cylinder for Marine purposes would not necessarily lead anybody to assume that we were meditating any change on our chassis programme in this direction. It would appear that there is a very fruitful field here for our energies and that with very small modifications, and what has already been done, the 8 cylinder could be quickly made available.
