CAROBRONZE TUBING FOR BUSHES.

With reference to the recommendation recently put forward again, that the use of "Carobronze" Tubing for Bushes in place of cast phosphor bronze, would shew a considerable economy in machining costs, we have to say that we are fully in agreement that this material should be perfectly satisfactory.

As a matter of fact we have, on at least three occasions during the last few years tried to introduce this material, but it has always been turned down on account of the high initial cost of the tube as compared with phosphor bronze.

Samples of this tube suitable for Connecting Rod bushes have been handed over to the Experimental Dept. some two or three years ago, and it may be they will have Experimental tests available which will justify the immediate standardisation of Carobronze tubing for chassis work.

In our opinion this material could be adopted at once without fear of trouble or difficulty arising as we consider that the hardness of the tube induced by cold working is such as to make its bearing qualities good.

It may be that a running test will be considered necessary before this material is introduced as standard unless Experimental Dept. can produce records of tests already carried out.
