(Cont'd) -2- Engine Unit. Carburetters generally were discussed and it was considered by all those in close touch with the problem that the Stromberg is a very good carburetter. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that in view of the high opinion held of the Stromberg we ought to take all necessary steps to devise some method of taking full advantage of Stromberg's experience and knowledge and of obtaining their co-operation in producing a Stromberg carburetter in a Rolls-Royce manner. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has still to find a satisfactory carburetter arrangement for SpectreCodename for Phantom III. Frame Sides. The new frame sides having hand holes in the plates were discussed and it was suggested that as the hand holes are being put in for manufacturing convenience a standard frame of existing gauge be built up with hand holes cut in existing plates so as to prove out the arrangement from the assembly point of view. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will arrange this with RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} The fourth SpectreCodename for Phantom III should have this type of frame plate but of the heavier gauge as already arranged by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} No.4. SpectreCodename for Phantom III. It was agreed that a specification should be drawn up for this chassis and that it should contain all the final schemes possible. No.2. SpectreCodename for Phantom III. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said it would be advantageous to send to France No.2. SpectreCodename for Phantom III to start endurance running before the weather becomes settled and dry. There are many features on the car on which road experience is required to get some idea of durability particularly the suspension, shock dampers, and steering gear. Gear Box. Gear boxes were briefly referred to and progress on the Cadillac comparison was reported. The investigation is still in progress and RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} said he is making adaptors to enable rig tests to be made on the gear wheels themselves. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is also instructing experimental gears on Cadillac lines. | ||
