NOTES OF CONFERENCE ON SPECTRECodename for Phantom III
MONDAY, MARCH 25TH, 1935.

Present:- Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said he proposed to discuss Ha/Hal/KWil.5.35. as this memo stated the present position of the various important sections and reported clearly the action which had been taken and what is suggested should be done.
He asked Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} to go through his memo and raise points for discussion.

Springs and ground clearance.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} stated that he and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} had been over this question thoroughly and had agreed that ground clearance need not be as much as on the Cadillac as a higher car would result. The Cadillac clearance is considered to be not necessary in this country, and for Colonial conditions larger wheels can be fitted.

Wheel Sizes.

The 17 x 7 1/2 wheel size is the one most favoured and to use these certain re-designing of parts will be necessary in order to give sufficient ground clearance.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will deal with these modifications.

The wheel sizes will be further considered by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} before a final decision is made.

Cadillac Suspension.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} said the strip examination of the independent suspension has proved to be disappointing and that excessive wear is evident in places in fact the wear is so great at the threaded shackle joints at the outer ends of the "wish-bones" as to render them unsafe for further use.

Engine Unit.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} said they had been on intensive work with a view to simplifying the carburation system and a great deal of work had been done on an arrangement having a single float chamber and two chokes.
