With regard to your Replacement Order No. R.{Sir Henry Royce} 16835, we regret that we are unable to take any steps to execute this. One of our difficulties is the fact that the very special material which, when incorporated in the insulation gives to it its ozone-resisting properties, is obtained from a firm in the United States and a recent fire has put them completely out of production. We have no information at the moment, as to how long it will be before supplies are likely to be resumed. Apart from the absence of supplies of raw material, we have no reason to anticipate that further attempts to make this cable within the prescribed limits of diameter will be any more successful than hitherto. We understand that your Experimental Department reported very favourably indeed upon the quality of this cable and, bearing in mind that the lengths we have supplied were specially manufactured for you, and the difficulties referred to above, we respectfully suggest that you should consider very seriously whether some revision of your arrangements for assembly would enable you to make use of the cable already manufactured, or alternatively, perhaps you could make use of the supply of cable we have made for you on other types of engine. Yours faithfully, Johnson & Phillips, Limited. CW Cawte SALES DEPT. (Cable Estimating). AC | ||
