Der/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} (Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}). " " DH{D. Henderson - Showroom} X8600 Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/M/9.9.27. Phantom Rear Wheel & Luggage Carrier. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/MC.9.27. The third paragraph of the above memo asked if we agreed to the side carrier with reduced plate on N.Sch. 2420. This scheme shews a plate approximately 7½" x 6½" and whilst its smaller size is an advantage from an appearance point of view, we still feel it is going to be a very distinct and ugly blot on the side of the car when it is not occupied. Even on the 20 HP. model where the size of the plate or flange is much smaller, it is anything but sightly when, as is normally the case, it is not in use and covered by the spare wheel. We have never seen one and as we note that the Experimental Dept: are awaiting instructions to enable them to fit up one, we suggest we should be given an opportunity of inspecting it before it is actually put into production. We are still of the opinion it would be beneficial to retain the present standard as regards the height of the wheel and consider the trough to be a lesser evil than increasing the height of the wheel.
