Modifying the bonnet hinge and radiator eye, weighing the disadvantages of a new scheme against its one aesthetic advantage.

Due to the peculiar action of the hinge the rear bonnet eye is of a peculiar shape and it will be expensive to produce. This cannot be helped.

A modified fitting on the radiator eye is required, but for the first car we suggest that the present casting might be used by modifying the machining for the bonnet eye and filing the external diameter of the boss.

It would appear that the tension rod would just about clear the hinge and would be good enough for the experiment.

On the first car we shall let Messrs.Hallam, Sleigh & Cheston make the beading in brass chromium plated, but should this be used on production this piece would be made in Staybrite.

We regret that this scheme has the following disadvantages over the present one:-

1) It weighs more.
2) It costs more.
3) It lets water in under the bonnet.
4) It forces us to use a steel bonnet top panel which will weigh more.

Its only advantage appears to be that it enables one to have an unbroken line for the top hinge, but Sales are anxious to see such a hinge as it is used on most other motor cars and in particular on the Wolseley, Hillman and the Humber Snipe, where it has been admired for the last year and a half.
