X.3485. GOSHAWK IGNITION. X4079 X4273

I should like you to find at what temperature the stabelite coil works when fixed in the standard position on top of thevalve gear cover, but standing on a heat insulated base and fixed by bolts which are heat and electrically insulated from the engine.

Also will you make another experiment to find out if the Goshawk ignition will work on dry batteries for the short period of time necessary for starting the engine. In the event of the adoption of a vibrator regulator for the Goshawk dynamo which we know would continue to run the engine once we were able to get it started, we should not be stalled absolutely by the break-down of the main battery, if we had a dry battery as a stand-by. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (We might carry a few of those thatbecame active when water is put in them).

R. {Sir Henry Royce}
