To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (X4217) X4217 RE. ESSEX CAR. I certainly think the best idea would be for you to order a cylinder head gasket from Messrs. Shaw and Kilburn for 10/6. If you got it through the Firm, we might get 1/- discount, but it would practically cost us that for extra postage. 10/6 is quite a reasonable charge. With reference to the detonations of the Essex Car, have you had the cylinder off and cleaned the carbon out? We think that with a detachable head, one should be able to use a higher compression because decarbonizing should be a job which could be done in half-a-day in the Owners' Garage. One has to be very careful in judging degrees of detonation. Everything depends on the fuel and No.1. fuel or any other grade of fuel varies considerably. Goshawk 11. when running with a paraffin mixture detonates considerably. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
