FRONT SPRINGS - FOUR WHEEL BRAKES.
-----------------------------------

Referring to BJ16/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 11. 8. 24. the position in regard to springs at the Works is as follows:-

1. In the absence of any 12½% stronger than standard springs for production, we are carrying on with the erection of chassis with springs 25% stronger than standard, as these represent the only springs we have in stock suitable for four wheel brakes.

2. The 10,000 mile test with springs 12½% stronger than standard is actually proceeding. It is anticipated that the 10,000 mile run will be completed in about three weeks' time; approximately 3,500 miles has already been reeled off.

3. It was considered in view of CJ's requirement for chassis with Four Wheel Brakes to be brought forward to a certain position, that it would be necessary to have some springs on order. I therefore considered the right thing to do was to cancel the 25% stronger which I had been informed by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} had been definitely turned down, and replace by 12½% stronger springs which were going favourably and apparently likely to be adopted.

4. The material for the 25% stronger springs could not be used to manufacture the 12½% stronger springs as the material was too thick.

5. With regard to 48-PK, there is no danger in running the unhardened servo on the service you are considering, whilst in regard to the gaiters, we have placed these on order and we are obtaining the earliest possible delivery.

6. In regard to 98-NK, it will be satisfactory for Maddox to bring this back to the Works when he returns.
