To CJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Re TESTING FRONT WHEEL BRAKES SPRINGS ON TRIALS LANDAULET. subject:- Below is a copy of memorandum from H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} on this subject:- H5/C11.8.24. C., Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and I have this afternoon been out on the above car, taking it over the very rough roads previously used by some of the party in testing the open car, round Hampstead Garden City. We are unanimously of the opinion that there is nothing in the springing as tried by us which should stand in the way of ordering the necessary sets of springs required by Derby to equip cars with front wheel brakes. We were of the opinion, also unanimously, that as noticed by you, the stiffening of the front springing on the landaulet seemed to cause the rear springing to appear lighter. We do not think this is a matter which could not be got over quite easily by an adjustment of the shock-absorbers. NOTE. It was not clear to us whether the front springs as fitted were correct for the landaulet load, as we understood they had been removed from an open car. Nor were we in a position to judge of the springing as it will be when fitted in the standard fashion, i.e. with spring shackles on the dumb irons and none at the rear end of the springs. (Sgd.)
