Y4491 To ROY {Sir Henry Royce} /GEA. from Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /AJL. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /AJL1/LG13.1.29. TANGYE JACK FOR 40/50 HP. CHASSIS. With reference to your Roy {Sir Henry Royce} /GEA6/EB17.1.29. We agree that the Tangye Jack submitted has a higher maximum safe load than our present Dunlop Jack. In our original specification we asked for a Jack to lift 15 cwts. normally with a maximum load of 2 tons in order to allow for the optimism which we find, as a rule, to prevail amongst jack manufacturers and to still have a good margin of max safety. Owing to the relatively high standard of manufacture indicated by the samples hitherto received from Tangye Ltd., we feel we can drop our maximum safe load to 30 cwts. Will you please advise Tangyes accordingly with a view to reducing the weight of the jack considerably, without decreasing the area of the base; the original specifications as regards height etc. still remain good.
