Actually, all our output curves now are, for comparative purposes, taken at a constant terminal voltage of 14.0 at which voltage we require a peak output of 16.0 amperes. The reason for the use of 14.0 volts is owing to the introduction of the two-rate charge scheme on which scheme the voltage with the superior output will normally not be very much higher than 14.0. At the same time the machine has to have a margin of safety in its setting against the possibility of the lamp fuses being removed and the machine run at its full output when the volts and amperes may rise to the higher figures stated above.

You will see from the above that our problem is somewhat difficult without an actual increase in size and weight of generator. We hope, however, to solve it and at the present moment we have armatures of special design nearly ready for test which we feel sure will give us a big improvement over the present machines and we are hopeful that it will give us all we require.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
