LID {A. J. Lidsey} To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. By re Rudge Whitworth Wheel Nuts on Bentley. Referring to Messrs. Rudge Whitworth's letter of the 4th inst. I am of the opinion, as I suggested before that the plating on the/thread may be the cause of the trouble in becoming detached and rolling up into a bead, which would very possibly lead to the effects we saw on the damaged nut and hub. I do not believe it is possible to satisfactorily clean and plate the thread, and the thread should not be interfered with after it has been finished. I, therefore, think we should specify on the drawing that there should be no plating on the threads and cone of the nut. Messrs. Rudge Whitworth's letter herewith.
