X.4340 To BY from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Mr Shelton. X.4340 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/CB6-4-21. RE BONNET AND FITTINGS. RE USE OF FERODO IN PLACE OF BRASS WEARING STRIPS. In reply to your BY3/P4-4-21, we are not clear what the difficulty is now. In our DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}6/CB1-3-21 we gave you the result of a discussion with Mr Hives, where it was agreed that the best plan, for the moment, was to retain the brass wearing strips along the bottom, and not use the ferodo there. Our reason for coming to this conclusion was that we could not accept the experimental method of putting ferodo along the bottom as being a satisfactory job. In this same note - DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}6/CB1-3-21, we also pointed out that we were intending to submit a fresh suggestion with reference to ferodo along the bottom, in connection with the interlacing scheme, which is only experimental at present, as soon as we had time to go into it a little more thoroughly. It is in connection with this scheme only, that we are considering ferodo along the bottom, as we consider that the standard scheme which is now being put into production, has no ferodo along the bottom, but a brass strip only.
