X.4186. RE IGNITION SWITCH FOR INSTRUMENT BOARD - 40/50HP.CHASSIS

We send you herewith drawing No. Lec.1281 shewing the above.

The locking cylinder is an exact copy of the one used on the Yale lock. Mr. Royce thinks that we should arrange for a supply of these, together with Yale keys, when we produce the switch in quantity. The body of the lock will be made in our own factory.

As designed, it is possible to unlock the instrument, and take away the key. This has been arranged by providing two sets of locking plungers at right angles to each other. If it be desired, however, that the key should stay in the switch lock when the car is running, it is merely necessary to cancel one set of plungers.

The conductors from the switch should be conveyed to the distribution board by the agency of a flexible metallic tube. This tube is fixed at the switch end in the manner shewn. Enough length should be provided in the flexible metallic tube to allow of the complete switch box being withdrawn through the instrument board when the milled nut securing the tube can be undone. If the pressed sheet aluminium casing be now released, it can be slipped along the flexible metallic tube, which will expose the interior of the switch and the connections for inspection.
