I have examined this motor and I presume that the original trouble was that the pinion refused to engage. This machine has been dismantled by somebody not competent to the job.
The floating bush at the drive end had been hammered up to prevent the bush floating, and afterwards scraped out and the cuttings allowed to enter the bearing. These, have, of course worked through with the oil.
I have shown the parts to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}/Fd{Frank Dodd - Bodies}, and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/HEW. I cannot understand why people tinker about with jobs they do not understand. In this particular case some hours must have been spent in making the job much worse than it was originally, before they started.
