H.R. 225A (100 T) (S H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 708. 10-19-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2947 BJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.4050 X.3725 X4050 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG6.7.21. DUNLOP WHEELS FITTED WITH DEMOUNTABLE RIMS With reference to your BJ6/H5.7.21. The following are our remarks to your queries. 1. It is intended that the Dunlop wheels fitted with demountable rims should be the standard wheel on all cars. We should expect variations from the standard to suit customers. At the present time we fit to the 40/50 chassis (1) Standard Dunlop wheels for clincher tyres (2) Dunlop wheels with demountable rims for American cars (3) Dunlop wheels with Warland rims (4) Michelin disc wheels (5) Wood wheels and demountable rims for cars in U.S.A. We do not hope or expect that fitting a demountable rim and wheel will avoid us fitting other types of wheels to suit certain customers. 2. Dunlop wheels with demountable rims can only be fitted with straight-sided tyres and vice versa the present wheels we fit can only be used with clincher tyres. 3. We have purposely delayed the standardisation of these wheels until, in our opinion, it was certain that suitable tyres were easily procured. At the present time the following tyre makers are stocking straight-sided tyres at all their Depots. Dunlop, Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone, U.S. Royal Cord. The Clincher, Avon and Englebert Tyre Companies are busy on the job producing straight-sided tyres and will shortly have tyres suitable for R-R Cars on the market. As regards obtaining these tyres in all parts of the world. We should say that as American cars are used more than any other car in all parts of the world, we should anticipate that straight-sided tyres would be as easy or easier to obtain than the clincher pattern. Practically the whole of American cars except the "Ford" are fitted with straight-sided tyres. We suggest, however, that our Agents in different countries might be consulted on this point. 4. Dunlop wheels fitted with Goodyear demountable rims have run 23,000 miles on Experimental cars at Derby. For the last 3 years all R-R cars which have been sent to U.S.A. have had demountable rims fitted immediately they have arrived in that country. One can safely say that there are over 300 cars running in America fitted with Dunlop wheels with demountable rims. contd:- | ||
