Instructions for conducting cooling system tests on chassis B-56-BN and 22-G-V.

In conjunction with the cooling tests which you are going to carry out for us on B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} we wish to indicate the temperatures etc. which we should like recording, and also an additional test which is required.

For the estimation of the adequacy of the cooling system at present on B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, the following temperatures are necessary - (1) Temperature of atmosphere, (2) Temperature of water in top tank under conditions (a) full throttle, maximum speed, (b) full throttle, 30 M.P.H.
If possible we should like in addition the following (3) Air temperature at exit from radiator matrix, (4) Air temperature at top rear of bonnet, (5) Water temperature at exit from radiator.

The additional test required is that of determining the minimum frontal area of Mark V type matrix (standard type as fitted to B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}) for adequate cooling of the large bore engine.

This should be done by carrying out successive tests with varying amounts blanked off from bottom of matrix, the depth of blanking to vary by half inches from 0" to 6", temperatures being recorded in each case as mentioned above.

In addition to the above, we would like you to determine on 22-G-V the position of the level at which the water will remain constant with the standard spring on the blow off valve; i.e., valve absolutely as standard this test being run with the water holes on the front of the cylinder head blocked up.
