EXPERIMENTAL CAR GEAR-BOXES. You will have heard about the trouble which occurred on the new gear-boxes which you produced for us when we fitted them up on a car. As you can imagine, this trouble worried us because we are coming to the state when experimental cars are being taken off the road because we have no gear-boxes to run in them. Owing to pressure of tank work, our analysis of the trouble has been somewhat delayed but we now believe that we have ascertained the cause, the solution being outlined in the attached report. We propose to issue two solutions to you: (a) The way to correct the boxes using existing pieces. (b) The ultimate solution, starting from scratch. We should be very glad if you could give the matter your attention, as our transportation commitments appear to be getting more rather than less. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Enclosure. | ||
