- 9 - FRONT AXLE PIVOTS LOP.G.55813-N.S.3634. The oil leak from the pivot bearings, which runs down the brake dust cover and drips on the tyres has been considerably lessened. The amount of leak now taking place is not objectionable and for safety of lubrication it is not desired to reduce it further. The scheme cuts out entirely the two reservoirs on the axle. These units can be dispensed with as there is no need for their original requirements with the fitting of the bijur system. These valves were meant for hand oiling only. The oil supply can be taken direct to the pivots by conduits drilled in the axle. The recess at the bottom of the pivot pins has been filled up with cork. This recess held a quantity of oil after the bijur supply had finished delivering. The extra oil is not needed with the bijur supply and drains out to waste. The cork inserts fitted is a sliding fit on the stand pipe, which acts as a bijur, and does not in any way interfere with the functioning of the oiling system. EXHAUST SYSTEM SOHOP.E.393.6. The exhaust system has been free from boom. A slight blow developed in the front expansion box, but this was found to be a weak place in the welding. The front box is too close to the frame and shows signs of having fouled. The suspension has been good and free from trouble, with the exception of the snout anchorage. This became solid. The bottom spring and the spindle of the piston had rusted up. The flange welded to the snout broke off at the sharp right angled bend. The joint washers of the manifold have had to be replaced owing to exhaust blows developing by the washers becoming burnt. PETROL TANK AND FITTINGS LOP F.58195. New Tank Body F.59773 arranged with 3 baffles 2-F.{Mr Friese} 59772 Sides - 1-F.59774 Centre increasing the effectiveness. The petrol tank has given no trouble. The anti splash filler is very good. There has been no petrol spilled out, with the tank full. The system has been run with only the Anota filter in the circuit. We have found this to be quite satisfactory. We have had no actual stoppage on the road. The car ran 9000 miles before it was necessary to clean out the filter. The electrical petrol gauge has operated satisfactory throughout the mileage. | ||
