TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} SECRET R3/M20.9.23. c. to GJ.BJ.WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to EH.EF.PN.{Mr Northey} c. to MPC. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. x9770 It has now been decided by Mr. Johnson and myself that we have 3 types of experimental chassis in hand, namely, EAC.1. 11. and 111. E.A.C.1. you are already well acquainted with. E.A.C.11. is the present chassis with certain modifications-i.e. EAC.1. engine, 4 wheel brakes, more gas-tight pedals, speedometer gear drive in the change gear box, a modified frame to facilitate luggage carrier, and many other suggested improvements as can be adapted. E.A.C.111. is the present chassis with a small number of improvements and is intended to be the same as taking one of the present chassis off the road and fitting it with 4 wheel brakes, and the more gas-tight pedals, but practically no other modifications, or at any rate only those of a very simple nature that can be quickly fitted. This last is for a model of a possible conversion of the present cars, i.e. those lately delivered. It would seem that as soon as you have received some drawings from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} much of the work of EAC.111. can proceed, that is, we may be able to at once to start building up a chassis. Personally I consider that EAC.111. is of the utmost urgency, and shall be pleased if you will do all you possibly can to forward the work. Amongst important things it will require a front axle suitable for front wheel brakes which has an additional inch between the pads compared with the one already in progress for EAC.1. I hope this modification will cause a suitable axle to be not long in forthcoming. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
