| W/S - C. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} x7961a Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/KW.12.2.35. I had the opportunity of trying Mr. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Summers' new Bentley when I was in London on Friday. He took delivery of the car and left it with Bentley Motors Ltd. for a fortnight while he was in Switzerland. You will remember that he was about the first customer to complain of wing movement. He bought his new car on the understanding that the wing movement be eliminated. He rang me up after taking delivery of his car to say that he considered that the front wings still moved excessively. After trying the car, which is fitted with a bumper bar, I agree that to complete the cure this car required the dropped front cross member. On the other hand of course it is a great deal better than any of the standard Saloons which are being turned out without the bumper bar. We recommend that if Mr. Summers persists in his complaint we should fit the member between the headlamps as on Fairey's car. Actually this customer has been very patient with his previous car, and we certainly feel that he deserves as much consideration as Mr. Staniland.
