X6126 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.5/AD. January 8th, 1932. Messrs. Peto & Radford Ltd. 50, Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1. Dear Sirs, Interchangeability. We are anxious that our standard 40/50 2-unit battery should be interchangeable with similar batteries which are serviced extensively all over the world, the idea being that in the event of a failure of our own battery abroad a standard battery could be fitted temporarily in its place in order to avoid inconvenience to the customer. At the same time we have in mind the possibility of considerable reduction in the price of such a battery. We do not wish to have any serious depreciation in the reliability and long life factors of such a battery, and we wonder whether you can make up a battery for us of a more or less standard type and of similar external dimensions to our own with the special robust Rolls-Royce elements incorporated. We have approached the Chloride Co. similarly and they are producing a battery for us of type 3XC15 in their catalogue. This battery is serviced extensively all over the world and they are going to fit Rolls-Royce elements to this battery in order to give us at least 50% more life than the normal elements in such a battery. We think this is the more fundamental way of reducing the cost of our batteries, at the same time gaining the advantage of interchangeability and we should be glad of your remarks and whether you could fix us up similarly to the Chloride Co. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
