Dear Sir,

In the absence of Captain Black, who left for the Continent yesterday, I wish to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 21st. January.

Captain Black was expecting to hear from you, and before his departure he instructed me to put you into touch with our Chief Engineer, Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Grinham, who is also a Director of the Company.

Unfortunately, however, Mr. Grinham is away today with influenza, and I should therefore be grateful if you would kindly leave the matter with me until Monday of next week, when it is hoped that he will be back again.
