Visit of Rover Co's Representative (Mr. Swain) Mr. Swain visited the Works on the 26-8-37 to discuss the troubles they experienced with Hadl's metal bearings. From the discussion we formed the opinion that the majority of their trouble was due to insufficient lubrication at the crankpin & our recommendations are set out in our report of 30-8-37. Further particulars of the Rover engine are set out below & in the attached prints etc. Crankshaft: Nickel-Chrome-Molybdenum 4 Bearings Crankpin 1.9375 dia x 1.312 wide Journals. 2.000 dia Front & intermediate bearings 1.437 wide Rear 1.875 wide Length of shaft from front bearing to rear bearing = 24.0" approx Diameter of oil holes in crankpins & journals = .250 Brinell hardness 225 - 270 Wt of crankshaft = 62.625 lb.
